A simple and cost-effective method is used to treat children born with clubfoot. At the Simon of Cyrene Galilee Center, children aged 0–2 years undergo treatment, which consists of two phases: the corrective phase and the maintenance phase.
Corrective Phase
This phase includes casting, where the foot is carefully manipulated and placed in a plaster cast once a week for 4 to 8 weeks. A key part of the corrective phase is a procedure called tenotomy. Most children require a minor incision in the Achilles tendon to enable the foot to move up and down freely. After this procedure, the foot is placed in a plaster cast for an additional 3 weeks. Once the corrective phase is complete, the child is ready to begin bracing. This minor surgical procedure is performed at partner hospitals, including Estevez Memorial Hospital and Naga City General Hospital
